Monroe Center for the Arts is the premier arts and business community in Hoboken NJ.
The two main buildings have 180,000 square feet of artist studios, office lofts and retail shops. A performing arts theater, art galleries, music dance and art schools, ensure that there is always something exciting going on. We have regularly scheduled music festivals, art exhibits and auctions, as well as workshops and art projects. Our twice annual Open Studio Tours draw an electric mix of artists and art connoisseurs from around the tri-state area.
The two converted industrial buildings used to be part of the much larger Levelor blinds factory complex. In 1990 the buildings were renovated for light industrial and artist uses. After a series of ups and downs, the previous owners declared bankruptcy in 2009.
Three years later the property was acquired by Basad Realty in July 2011. Basad Realty is a small family run real estate investment company based in North Bergen NJ. Since Basad took over, a new ambitious renovation program was undertaken scheduled to be completed in spring 2013.
In the last year 27 new artists and small businesses have joined the community. In the next few months seven new retail shops will open for business.
